Dream Theater – A Rite of Passage (Remastered DR11) [Unofficial]

Originally a DR6 marginally clipped track – now “re-mastered” to a DR11-level – General dynamics treatments and so on.

Note: Reduce volume on retail by approximately 6.3db during playback for equal loudness comparison

The level & dynamics in the DR12 version are now closer to that of previous albums such as Images & Words – So to enjoy to its fullest, please play on a standalone/dedicated audio system (non-portable – non-builtin) if possible – and turn it up a good bit. The impact, and the resultant attention it draws from the listener as a result of the increased dynamics and seperation of instrumentss helps make the song a lot more memorable & also interesting.

  2. You need something that plays FLAC files. Winamp or MediaMonkey will play them out-of-the-box. Windows Media Player etc can play them if you install the required codec.

  4. Was meaning to check out that album also – haven’t had the chance, but it’s on the list. Will see what I can do with that though, each album varies in how much it was originally squashed and how much of a change can be made and still have it sound like an official mastering would have if it was done differently to start with – If you see what I mean

  5. Just had a quick look at the Retail CD – That is some shocking clipping on that record – will certainly try my best to rescue it if possible :-)

Portnoy just jumps out at you
    It just sounds natural
It feels wierd listening to mainstream rock song ( i downloaded Something in you mouth) with good dynamics

  7. yah – that sort of music has been more consistently compressed and more consistently played on music stations in recent years I guess it is almost hard-coded into people’s minds that it is how it should sound – But saying that, I sort of rushed the nickelback one and didnt give it the same levelos care or tweaking in comparison to the Dream Theater ones :-)

  8. could you consider remastering the Red Hot Chili Peppers “By The Way” album?

I would really love to hear it with all the dynamic range it should of had.
