JFA Re-Mastered

Dream Theater – Black Clouds & Silver Linings

Album:

CD Cover

Remixed & Remastered from the isolated audio stems – This community edition of the tracks was made with the intent of incorporating some pre-1990 sonic elements of rock/metal recordings where suitable, and to increase dynamic range – resulting in approx 13db Dynamic Range (DR Meter).

Of course, some may love it, some may not – it is just another edition to try at the end of the day – however hopefully people will be able to hear the music and compositions in a new way, and hopefully also in a more enjoyable way.

To hear this edition – please view the details in our forum – registration required.

do you think you could possibly try to remaster an Andy Sneap produced album from either testament or Megadeth?

  • Just visiting, for good

Oh my! It sounds a bit different, obviously. After this refreshing experience I’m probably going to put aside the official release for a while. It is clear from the start that one does distinguish the instruments from one another a bit better, especially the drums; the presence is there and you feel the room Portnoy’s playing in (= fine reverb). I feel the vibe of the band. The official release sounds a bit messy compared to this, and the band’s precense is somewhere in the distance. What’s interesting is when I listen to this with my earplugs, I don’t have to equalize it at all from the player – I usually have to lower the high frequencies and boost the lows.
    Keep up the good work!
