Album: Welcome To My DNA

Blackfield - Welcome To My DNA

I was expecting this album to sound great after hearing what Steven Wilson did with Porcupine Tree’s The Incident album (you can read about it here), but what we got this time exceeded even that.

The official DR value is 12 (more details here: http://dr.loudness-war.info/details.php?id=8349)!

The sound is beyond amazing. All instruments sound crystal clear, there’s no place for “mud” and even when there’s a lot of instruments playing at the same time, you can hear each one of them – something that’s not so obvious on many dynamically compressed records.

Steven Wilson is aware of the role dynamics have and uses it well. There are moments when the music becomes soft, with low volume, just to hit the listener the next second almost with heavy metal, making the experience much more engaging and emotional.

I totally agree. Steven Wilson did a great job here. I am also very pleased with that album, especially with the great dynamic sound. But unfortunately the two album before, was not produced that good (beside the great music). They both have a DR of 8. So Welcome To My DNA seems to be a fantastic progress. I really hope that these guys keep on producing their albums in that range of quality. It makes them so enjoyable!
